  • When the proper value or choice is flashing, the item may be chosen and loaded into the program by pushing the OK key

Early Dose

Early Dose may be used to take as many “early doses” as necessary.

  • Press “EARLY DOSE” button. LCD reads:
    353_Slide_1_1

  • The LCD displays the scheduled time of the next dose. The next scheduled dose in the device will be dispensed within two minutes
  • Repeat for each dose needed

Missed Dose

Missed Dose is indicated when “System OK” is flashing.

  • The client has missed one or more doses
  • To check the dose missed press the “STATUS” button. The MD-2 LCD will read:
    356_Slide1_2

    358_Slide_2_1
  • Use the “Up” or “Down” arrow to scroll through the missed doses.

    359_Slide22
  • Scroll to the right so that the word “Review” is flashing and select it by pushing “OK”.
  • The LCD will read:
    360_Slide_2_2
  • The cylinders align and will reveal the next dose(s).
  • The LCD will read:
    361_Slide_3_2
  • The LCD informs the caregiver how many cups should be loaded for that day.
  • The information: Cups 1-3 indicates the position of the cups in the cylinder from the bottom up.
  • The word “Continue” will be flashing.
  • To check the next day press “OK”
  • The device will move to the next calendar day cylinder.
  • This procedure may be repeated until no more doses are loaded and the screen returns to normal operation.

(PLEASE NOTE: There are ten (10) cylinders in the MD-2. Loading of the device is done one single calendar day at the time as the cylinder moves in a counter clock-wise motion. Loading for more than ten calendar days will mean that calendar day 11 is loaded on top of calendar day 1. Loading continues in this corkscrew fashion.)

  • MD2 Machine loaded for more then 10 days
If a cylinder happens to be loaded for more than one calendar day and the review process is continued through to that later calendar day (10 days later) the medication will be on top of the meds scheduled 11 days earlier.
In this case the LCD for the 11th day will read:
    372_Slide4
  • The information: Cups 4-6 indicates that the cups in the cylinder are in the 4-6 position from the bottom of the cylinder.

Information Entered into MD2 Machine but Not Loaded

A common mistake occurs when loading medication.

  • The caregiver instructs the machine to load a calendar day but does not put medication into the device.
  • You can determine if this error has occurred by performing the review function.
  • If you know no more than 10 days have been loaded and the client reports that the device triggered a med reminder but no medication came out.
  • Correcting the mistake:
    • Reprogram then reload the device OR
    • Insert the required loaded medication cups into the calendar day cylinder.

Weekly Reloading the MD2 Machine

The option that is flashing may always be selected by pressing the “OK” button.

  • The right/left arrow buttons allow you to navigate to YOUR desired OPTION
  • The Up/Down arrow buttons allow you to INCREASE or DECREASE a value
  • Prepare the clients medication by using the Loading Station provided with the MD-2, medicine cups and lids
  • Unlock the MD-2 and open the door
  • Press the “LOAD” button ONCE – Your options are to LOAD or REVIEW
  • You may choose to LOAD by pressing the “OK” button

Loading the MD2 Machine

If you choose LOAD the cylinders rotate to the next day that needs to be loaded.  Always do exactly as the machine directs you.  If the machine states “please load four medicine cups” you must do so.  The machine assumes that the number it asks for is the number you have loaded.

  • Load the medicine cups upside down
  • Load the first dose of the day, then the second and so on.
  • If loading more than ten days into the device you will be loading cups upon cups.
  • Note that the MD-2 indicates which day you are loading and the number of doses for that day.
  • When you have loaded the necessary number of doses, press the OK button.
  • The screen then has CONTINUE flashing and QUIT to the right (solid).
  • To load the next day accept CONTINUE by pressing the OK button.
  • To stop loading use the right arrow button once and accept QUIT when it flashes.

NOTE:  By verifying the day and date on the LCD screen when loading each day you will know how full the device is and on what day the machine needs to be loaded again.

Reviewing What is Loaded in the MD2 Machine

If you choose REVIEW the cylinders rotate to the next dose day.  The LCD screen indicates how many cups should be in the cylinder and the date they will be dispensed.  The screen offers the choice to CONTINUE or QUIT.  Make your choice by using the arrow and OK button as indicated above.
