All choices are made from the menu on the LCD screen.
An item is highlighted when it is flashing.
The item can be selected by pushing the OK key.
Horizontal arrows move the selection left and right.
Vertical arrows increase, decrease or allow scrolling among selections.
When the proper value or choice is flashing, the item may be chosen and loaded into the program by pushing the OK key
DO NOT push a button more than once. Wait 15 seconds for the machine to respond. Pushing a button more than once may result in a wrong choice and an incorrect programming of the device.
Early Dose
Early Dose may be used to take as many "early doses" as necessary.
Press "EARLY DOSE" button. LCD reads: See image to the right
With the "YES" field flashing press "OK"
The LCD displays the scheduled time of the next dose. The next scheduled dose in the device will be dispensed within two minutes.
Repeat for each dose needed
Missed Dose
Missed Dose is indicated when "System OK" is flashing.
The client has missed one or more doses.
To check the dose missed press the "STATUS" button.
The MD-2 LCD will read: Remove any missed dose cups from the tray to the right of the keypad and press "OK".
The display will provide information on the dose day and time missed such as the example shown:
Use the “Up” or “Down” arrow to scroll through the missed doses.
When finished scrolling press the “RUN” button to return to normal operation and to clear the missed dose information.
Reviewing Medication
Used to access cylinders to verify medication already loaded or to change medication already loaded.
Press the “LOAD” button.
The LCD screen reads:
Scroll to the right so that the word “Review” is flashing and select it by pushing “OK”.
The LCD will read:
The cylinders align and will reveal the next dose(s).
The LCD will read:
The LCD informs the caregiver how many cups should be loaded for that day.
The information: Cups 1-3 indicates the position of the cups in the cylinder from the bottom up.
The word “Continue” will be flashing.
To check the next day press “OK”
The device will move to the next calendar day cylinder.
This procedure may be repeated until no more doses are loaded and the screen returns to normal operation.
(PLEASE NOTE: There are ten (10) cylinders in the MD-2. Loading of the device is done one single calendar day at the time as the cylinder moves in a counter clock-wise motion. Loading for more than ten calendar days will mean that calendar day 11 is loaded on top of calendar day 1. Loading continues in this corkscrew fashion.)
MD2 Machine loaded for more then 10 days
If a cylinder happens to be loaded for more than one calendar day and the review process is continued through to that later calendar day (10 days later) the medication will be on top of the meds scheduled 11 days earlier.
In this case the LCD for the 11th day will read:
The information: Cups 4-6 indicates that the cups in the cylinder are in the 4-6 position from the bottom of the cylinder.
Information entered into MD2 Machine but not loaded
A common mistake occurs when loading medication.
The caregiver instructs the machine to load a calendar day but does not put medication into the device.
You can determine if this error has occurred by performing the review function.
If you know no more than 10 days have been loaded and the client reports that the device triggered a med reminder but no medication came out.
Correcting the mistake:
Reprogram then reload the device
OR
Insert the required loaded medication cups into the calendar day cylinder.
Weekly Reloading the MD2 Machine
The option that is flashing may always be selected by pressing the "OK" button.
The right/left arrow buttons allow you to navigate to YOUR desired OPTION
The Up/Down arrow buttons allow you to INCREASE or DECREASE a value
Prepare the clients medication by using the Loading Station provided with the MD-2, medicine cups and lids
Unlock the MD-2 and open the door
Press the "LOAD" button ONCE - Your options are to LOAD or REVIEW
You may choose to LOAD by pressing the "OK" button
To see the medication cups or change a dose currently loaded in the device select REVIEW
Loading the MD2 Machine
If you choose LOAD the cylinders rotate to the next day that needs to be loaded.Always do exactly as the machine directs you.If the machine states "please load four medicine cups" you must do so.The machine assumes that the number it asks for is the number you have loaded.
Load the medicine cups upside down
Load the first dose of the day, then the second and so on.
If loading more than ten days into the device you will be loading cups upon cups.
Note that the MD-2 indicates which day you are loading and the number of doses for that day.
When you have loaded the necessary number of doses, press the OK button.
The screen then has CONTINUE flashing and QUIT to the right (solid).
To load the next day accept CONTINUE by pressing the OK button.
To stop loading use the right arrow button once and accept QUIT when it flashes.
NOTE:By verifying the day and date on the LCD screen when loading each day youwill know how full the device is and on what day the machine needs to be loaded again.
Reviewing What is Loaded in the MD2 Machine
If you choose REVIEW the cylinders rotate to the next dose day.The LCD screen indicates how many cups should be in the cylinder and the date they will be dispensed.The screen offers the choice to CONTINUE or QUIT.Make your choice by using the arrow and OK button as indicated above.
Manually Scheduling the MD2 Machine
Before Starting: Thoroughly read all the instructions before attempting to reschedule the MD2.
When to Reschedule
The clients scheduled dosing changes in some way
The LCD screen reads ERROR MESSAGE
The machine has been unplugged and/or the batteries have been drained.
First Step: Unloading
Manually rotate the medication cylinders, removing and medication cups remaining in the dispenser.
Place them in the Loading Station.
After removing any remaining medication from the machine, turn on the dispenser at the rear of the unit.
Allow the Self-Test to proceed
Second Step: Time and Volume:
Push the set-up button.
Using the arrow keys, select TIME. (This is done pushing the OK key while TIME is flashing).
Using the horizontal, vertical arrow and OK keys, set up the current month, day, time (note proper AM and PM), and year.
Then press the OK key to accept.
Using the arrow keys again scroll to the VOL (volume) selection.
Press the OK key to enter the volume change selection.
Press the up or down arrows, after a brief pause a voice says "thank you" or delivers a volume tone.
There are three voice levels.
Select the volume you want by pushing the OK key.
To exit the set-up function use the arrow keys to highlight QUIT and select it by pushing OK.
The screen will now display the correct time and say System OK Ready for Set-Up.
Third Step:Manual Programming and Setting the Schedule
(Important note: Determine if the serial number of the device you are loading begins with 00149... OR 0023...The serial number is located above the key pad on the device label.)
Customer Has Actual Medication Dispensing ONLY (no dose messages or special reminders). Follow these instructions (if customer has medication dispensing AND special reminders, skip to option 2)
Serial number begins with 00149....
Press SCHEDULE then choose the OTHER option.
Chose the OTHER option AGAIN. Now choose MANUALLY PROGRAM.
Serial number begins with 0023...
Press SCHEDULE then push the up arrow button
Choose MANUAL.
Using the vertical arrow keys enter the correct number of doses for Sunday.
Push OK.
Proceed to Dose Messaging by pushing the OK key again.
Select the correct dosing message (up or down arrow) or No Message.
The OK button enters the choice for the listed dose message.
Follow the prompts on the screen.
At the MESSAGE ONLY screen
NO means that a medication cup will be dispensed.
YES means that a MESSAGE ONLY will be played once.
Next, set the time for medication dispenses.
Push OK to accept.
After scheduling Sunday, you will be prompted to use this schedule for the entire week.
Choose YES for the whole week or select NO and schedule each day of the week individually.
In most cases there will be no PRN dosing.
If this is the case leave PRN Dosing OFF by selecting OK.
You have completed the programming when the screen reads UNIT EMPTY READY TO LOAD.
Proceed with the loading program.
2.Customer Has Medication Dispensing AND Specialty Reminders
(Dose messages and special reminders).
Follow these instructions (customer has actual dosage dispensing ONLY, thanfollow the steps under 1 )

Press SCHEDULE then choose the OTHER option.
Chose the OTHER option AGAIN. Now choose MANUALLY PROGRAM.

Press SCHEDULE then push the up arrow button

Using the vertical arrow keys enter the correct number of doses for Sunday.
Push OK.
Proceed to Dose Messaging by pushing the OK key again.
Select the correct dosing message (up or down arrow) or No Message.
